Born as Sajid Ali Khan to the Late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and Sharmila Tagore, Saif Ali Khan is one of most respected actors of Bollywood. He is one of the few actors who has become hugely successful in the Indian film industry. Leaving acting Khan is also a producer, model, and TV presenter on various occasions. He is one the most high-profile celebrities in India.
Saif Ali Khan’s father the Late Nawab of ‘Pataudi’ was an Indian cricketer and former captain of the Indian cricket team. Saif’s father was the titular Nawab of Pataudi from the year 1952 to 1971, before the Indian constitution abolished princes. Saif’s grandfather was Nawab, Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi the eighth Nawab of Pataudi. Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi is often described as “the best captains of the Indian cricket team.”
His mother is a National Film Award-winning actress Sharmila Tagore. Tagore was from a prestigious Bengali family and begin acting at a tender age of 13. She was born to Gitindranath Tagore the deputy manager of East India Company in the year 1944. Khan’s mother’s family are related to Nobel laureate Sir Rabindranath Tagore. Saif Ali Khan is of Pathan descent from his father’s side and of Bengali descent from his mother’s side.
The Nawab of Pataudi married Sharmila Tagore on 27th Dec 1967. She converted to Islam before the marriage. The couple had three children Saif on 16th Aug 1970, his two sisters jewelry designer Saba Ali Khan in 1976 and actress Soha Ali Khan on 4th Oct 1978. Soha Ali Khan studied in the one of the most esteemed social sciences college in the world “The London School of Economics and Political Science” and made her acting debut in 2014.
Following the death of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, Saif Ali Khan was crowned the tenth Nawab of Pataudi in a pagri ceremony held in the village of Pataudi, Haryana.
As a child, Saif was impulsive and spontaneous according to his mother. He had a happy childhood with very little influence of movies in his early life. In the year 2004 Saif starred in the romantic comedy ‘Hum Tum’ which earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor. ‘Hum Tum’ is the first movie in which Saif played the sole male lead. Some of his best works can be seen in ‘Being Cyrus,’ ‘Parineeta,’ ‘Salaam Namaste,’ ‘Omkara’, ‘Love Aaj Kal,’ ‘Race,’ and ‘Kurbaan.’ Saif has been the recipient of various accolades that include the National Film Award, the Padma Shri, the Filmfare Awards, and the fourth highest Indian civilian award. Khan’s first wife was actress Amrita Singh. They meet in the sets of ‘Bekhudi,’ and madly fell in love. In October 1991 he married Sigh. The couple had two children, a daughter and a son born in the year 1993 and 2001 respectively. Khan separated from Sigh in the year 2004. On 16 October 2012, Saif Ali Khan married Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor after five years of courtship.
