And Rohit Sharma did made his dream come true through his sheer hard work, perseverance and patience. Born on 30th April 1987, in Bansod , Nagpur, Maharashtra, he was raised by his uncle and his grandparents because of his father’s low income. Due to extreme poverty stricken conditions, Rohit Sharma enjoyed immense support of his uncle who helped him in every possible way.
Rohit Sharma has been honored with some of the most prestigious awards for his work in the field of cricket. Some of the popular awards he has bagged include Arjuna Award (2015) which is presented by Government of India to recognize outstanding achievements in national sports in India. He was also awarded with ESPNcricinfo best ODI batting award for his outstanding knock of 106 runs of 66 balls in T20. Also, he has won ESPNcricinfo best ODI batting performance award for his two double ODI hundreds which he scored in 2013 and 2014. Some other major awards include T20 World Cup 2007, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, Champions Trophy 2013.
EDUCATION AND CAREER
In 1999, Rohit Sharma attended a cricket camp with the help of uncle who provided him with all financial assistance. His coach, Dinesh Sad recognized his innate talent in cricket and rigorously trained him so that his skills could be further nourished. His coach was an inspiring force for him and even helped him to switch the school so that he could be trained more efficiently. He made through Swami Vivekananda International School where his coach arranged for scholarship for him. He excelled in all school tournaments he played in.
Rohit Sharma started his international career at the age of 20. He made his ODI debut on 23rd June, 2007 against Ireland. In 2013, he started playing as an opening batsman for Indian ODI team and performed consistently. He scored consecutive centuries in his first two Test matched against West Indies in November 2013, scoring 177 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on debut, followed by a unbeaten score of 111 in the next test at Wankhede Stadium in India. Further, on 13th November 2014, Rohit Sharma scored 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens, Kolkata which is the highest individual score in ODIs. He thus became the only player in the world to score to double hundreds in ODIs. Hence, these are some of the few achievements in his cricketing career which won him fame and recognition.
