Medicine is something that has been running quite for some time now. Since the beginning of civilization itself, humans have tried, in most cases to be healthy, or if not, to correct any issues that deteriorate their health conditions. After the dawn of scientific understanding, a lot of innovations have shaped the advent of the medical sciences, like Jenner’s discovery of vaccination, Pasteur’s discovery of pasteurization, Fleming’s discovery of Penicillin and Christian Bernard’s first heart transplant surgery.
But there is still a need for world class doctors, and many nations are building their strategies around better healthcare facilities. There are some world-class medical colleges in India to which admission is based on exams like AIIMS and AIPMT. The best medical colleges in India were established during 1950’s and 1960’s owing to the efforts of the central and the state governments. However, since 1980’s, a large number of private colleges have been established throughout the country. The Medical Council of India looks after the standard and the quality of these medical colleges. Presently, there are a total of 273 Indian medical colleges recognized by MCI, with a total of 31298 students.
